The Saugus Business Partnership (SBP) recently presented a donation to the Saugus High School football team which will provide the funds for a bus to take the varsity team to and from Stackpole Field for their home games. According to Saugus High School Athletic Director John Nicolo, second from right, the varsity team dresses for home games at the high school and each member is responsible for getting himself to the game. The SBP donation provides an added measure of safety for the players by providing the transportation. Taking part in the check presentation were (from left) SBP Clerk Jim McIver, team captain Alex Klemarchuk, coach Mike Broderick, SBP Vice President Bill Doyle, SBP President Donald Wong, Athletic Director Nicolo, and SBP Treasurer John Smolinsky.
The SBP donation is a welcome addition to the Saugus Athletic Department in the wake of budget cuts that eliminated such things as bus transportation for the team, according to Nicolo. The SBP recently made a donation to the SHS varsity and junior varsity golf teams to enable them to practice and host home meets at two local golf courses.
Founded in 2003 by four local business leaders, the Saugus Business Partnership (SBP) was created to improve and enhance the quality of life in Saugus. The SBP works to keep local programs up and running, and is committed to research, analyze and develop policy on issues affecting the economy in Saugus.
