The Friends of the Saugus Public Library and the Saugus Business Partnership (SBP) will co-sponsor the 1st annual Evening of Wine Tasting and Silent Auction at the Library on Saturday evening, November 15th, 2003 from 7 to 10 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Saugus Public Library programs, book collections, services and physical plant, including the conversion of a portion of the reference area into a quiet study space in the afternoon and a community meeting room during the evening hours.
According to Mary Rose Quinn, head librarian for the Saugus Public Library, the event will also help restore programs eliminated by budget cuts, including popular programs for children and seniors. This is the library's largest fund raising event of the year.

The Evening of Wine Tasting and Silent Auction at the Library will include music, food and a variety of wines for sampling. Each attendee will also receive a commemorative wine glass with an image of the "old" and "new" libraries donated by the Friends of the Saugus Public Library.
With the downturn in the state's economy, people have been using the
library's services more frequently than ever before,
Mary Rose said.
At the same time, our funding has been cut and several programs are in
jeopardy. Support from the community through events like the wine tasting and
silent auction is essential for us to continue to provide book collections
and services to Saugus residents. We hope that Saugus residents will come out
in support of their local library at this fundraising event.
The Saugus Business Partnership is proud to have funded collections and
programs for the Saugus Public Library during the past year,
SBP President Donald Wong
added. We look forward to helping this important community resource
continue to provide essential services through this event and we hope that
the community will join us in supporting our local hometown library.
Tickets for the Evening of Wine Tasting and Silent Auction can be purchased at a cost of $20 per person at the circulation desk at the Saugus Public Library. Ticket costs are tax deductible and checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Saugus Public Library.
